We have assembled an incredible roster of artists, art consultants, and curators to facilitate stimulating conversations for our visitors. They will cover recent trends in contemporary art, young emerging talents to watch, art as a tool for social engagement, and how artists are making art tech savvy and accessible.
All talks are FREE and last approximately 45 minutes. Space is limited. Make sure you register early!

A Walking Tour by Marci Kroft, Private Art Consultant

Join Marci Kroft, a private art consultant and longstanding supporter of TOAE as a past Board Member and Juror, as she explores the work of our top winners at TOAE: Best of Exhibition, Best of Student and the Founding Chairman’s Award. In addition to having the opportunity to hear these winners discuss their work and their creative process, Marci will facilitate a discussion around what makes art and artists award-worthy. Marci is a Toronto-based private art consultant with over 15 years experience helping clients integrate art into their spaces in a thoughtful and meaningful way. Marci’s extensive knowledge of the art market puts clients at ease as they place their trust in her to guide them through the process of buying art and building collections. Prior to dedicating herself to a full-time art consulting practice, Marci’s professional experience includes working as the Executive Assistant to the Director of the Art Gallery of Ontario and working in the Toronto and Boston offices of Sotheby’s. Marci regularly speaks to community organizations on various topics relating to art collecting and connoisseurship. She holds a B.A. in Art History from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts and an M.A. in Art History from Western University.

Join TOAE 2017 juror, and writer and curator at Olga Korper Gallery, Taiga Lipson, as she takes you on a tour to explore the artists that stood out during the jury process. Taiga Lipson has been part of the Olga Korper Gallery for the last seven years as resident cheese-addict, wiener dog enthusiast, and general nuisance. With a degree in art history and curatorial studies from Carleton University, she writes the gallery publications, curates the exhibitions, and organizes the gallery’s presence at art fairs in Toronto, Montreal, and Miami, dedicating her career to the promotion of contemporary Canadian art.

Join the artists and world travellers of Eyes of Society in the Beer Garden for a #BeerChat about how art in the postmodern era speaks to the public. This talk begins overlooking the square, and then ventures through the Exhibition as you discuss the importance of art as a tool of social commentary and which of today’s artists are addressing social awareness in their works. This tour includes a visit with the winner of the inaugural Eyes of Society - Social Commentary Award.

Join Geneviève Wallen for a walking tour of Nathan Phillips Square to discover the fresh talents of emerging artists at the 2017 Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. Geneviève Wallen is a Toronto-based curator and writer interested in issues of ethnocultural representational spaces in Canada. Wallen's focus on diasporic narratives, intersectional feminism, intergenerational healing, and alternative BIPOC futurities inform her practice. She has curated exhibitions in Montreal and Toronto, and is currently Programming Coordinator at Xpace Cultural Centre and a board member-curator at YTB (Younger Than Beyoncé) Gallery.
